Sparring at Tat Wong

I went to meet up with Jasan and his girlfriend at Tat Wong's Kung Fu school in the Richmond. I was just going to pick up some gear I had ordered via Jasan, but got there just in time to see the school start their inter-school sparring championships.

There were people of all ages and sizes sparring, but all guys. Most of the people sparring were at a junior level I think, and they tended to run out of steam early. The more experienced fighters seemed to do a better job of take-downs and of generally pacing themselves. San Shou rules were in effect, and on top of that no strikes to head were allowed. Everyone did a pretty good job, it would be a lot of fun to spar with these folks.

Now that I have acquired a whole new set of protective gear, I plan on trying out sparring at Fight and Fitness.

I went to Fight and Fitness a few times. It was cool. Except the teacher had this really, really thick accent. I tried to follow him as best as I could, but it was a struggle.

That would be Bunkerd. He has an accent and speaks somewhat softly, so yes, it can be tough to understand what he is saying.
