The principles of Wing Chun still exist in the use of weapons, but application is somewhat different. The target of attacks become the hands and feet for the pole, and just the hands and arms for the swords, the idea is to disable or disarm the attacker without getting too close. To increase mobility you keep your weight on the balls of your feet and not the heels.
We mostly just covered warm-up and strength drills and basic movements. Working with weapons requires building up muscles, especially in the arms. Hopefully next time we will get into some basic application drills.
