Spam has been a problem for years, and I find myself increasingly dealing with spam related problems or with issues caused by spammers. Currently I'm having trouble getting an email announcement out for a small business because DreamHost has limited the amount of email that can be sent. I understand why they must do it, but it sucks.

Why hasn't the spam problem been resolved yet? There's been work on this for years. Is the problem with spam similar to the slow adoption of IPv6? At some point people spend more time dealing with the problems of the current standard, than with switching to a new and better standard. Have we reached that point with email and mail servers?
