Martial Arts

I've been going to my Wing Chun school for 4 years now and I think I'd like to try and learn another style or try out another school. I intend to keep going to my current school, but might not go as often if I find another place to train.

Does anyone have a desire to take up a martial art and go with me? It is little more fun to start with someone else.

I've been thinking of doing some Eskrima although part of me thinks I should do something to improve my kicking.

I've also always been tempted by good ol' Marquis of Queensbury Rules Boxing.

There should be some good eskrima schools in SF but I don't know any right in the city. For working kicking I can imagine a number of different options, Savate, Muay Thai, San Shou etc.

Good ole boxing would definitely be good for conditioning and dodging.

One of my friends from work goes to one in SF. I can get more info if you'd like.

American Bujinkan Ninjutsu is fun. I'd do that again if you're interested and the logistics of me getting back to the city in time for it work out.

You like the SF school? What kind of stuff do they teach? What is the format for a typical class?

I've never visited the SF school; I attended classes at the on-campus dojo in Santa Cruz for around two years while I was at school there. The classes were 90 minutes long. I don't have much of a basis of comparison with other martial arts — the classes seemed like a good mix of blocking, dodging, disarming, holds, punching, kicking, diving, weapons, etc.

Just looking at the SF website right now, the sensei sounds pretty hardcore. They have classes Tuesday and Thursday nights on Potrero Hill, according to the FAQ. I'll try to visit the week after this one.

I'd be down to go check it out and take an intro class the week after next.

How about this Thursday? It looks like I need to email the instructor to find out when and where the class is being held.

This thursday evening should be good, if the class is in the city. Let me know about when and where.
