Useless Unit of Measurement

I would like to propose a new stupid unit of measurement. Something along the lines of Stories Tall, or Football Fields in area, or number of trees worth of paper. All those silly units of measurement employ a base unit of measurement that is not standard.

So to that list I would like to add LPCs, Laptops Per Child, with the base unit representing $100, the goal of the OLPC project. For example, the base price of the newly announced MacBook Air would be 18 LPCs, or an iPhone would be 4 LPCs.

Now you can measure your expenditure in units that tell you how many poor children you could be helping, instead of gorging yourself on the latest gadget.

Lately I've been measuring all my purchases in GOG. An iPhone would be 134 gallons of gas, give or take. Which is about six months worth of gas for me (I don't do a lot of driving). This is how I decided that I didn't need an iPhone.

This sentence has given me a great idea for a skit:

Something along the lines of Stories Tall, or Football Fields in area, or number of trees worth of paper.

Seeing as the writer's guild is still on strike, I suppose there is nothing better to plagiarize. ;)
